In 2014, a man was attacked by a tiger when he fell into its enclosure. He eventually succumbed to his injuries.

NEW DELHI: Almost four years after a man fell inside the white tiger enclosure at the Delhi zoo and was mauled to death, the authorities are taking steps to prevent any such event in future.

According to the zoo authorities, human-sized cages will be installed at a corner of every tiger enclosure as early as next month, allowing any individual who falls inside to take shelter in it until he is rescued.

While the incident led to emergency items like ropes, ladders and firecrackers being kept on standby at the tiger enclosures, officials said they still felt the need for a better precaution.

Initially, these cages will be installed in the tiger and bear enclosures as these animals are more likely to approach a human being out of curiosity. Each enclosure will also have a board placed outside it with instructions on what to do in case of such an accident.

The cage will not be complicated at all. People will be able to easily go inside and securely lock themselves up. The cages are fairly sturdy and no harm can come to an individual once inside.
