RAJKOT : A 12-year-old tigress ‘Bhumi’ died due to snakebite in Pradyuman Park zoo run by the Rajkot municipal corporation (RMC). The tigress was brought from Vadodara zoo to Rajkot in 2010.
According to zoo authorities, a viper snake bit the tigress in the cage. Zoo superintendent R K Hirpara said, “In monsoon, snakes generally come out from its burrows.
This zoo is located in a forest area and there is a water body surrounding it. So it is possible that snake might had sneaked into the cage. The postmortem of the carcass was done by a panel of three doctors.
However, municipal commissioner Banchha Nidhi Pani denied negligence on the part of zoo authorities.
