Jaipur: A tourist and his guide were jointly fined Rs 51,000 for allegedly pelting stones at a sleeping tiger in Ranthambore Tiger Reserve in a bid to get the perfect “action shot” on Tuesday.
The cruelty was captured in thermal-imaging cameras used to monitor big cats in the park. The forest department also cancelled the tourist’s full-day safari booking.
It was a very foolish and insensitive thing to do. The tiger could have felt threatened and attacked. Even otherwise the tiger could have been injured after being hit by a stone.
It was the guide who is more to be blamed. A safari guide must follow the rules and educate the tourist about the do’s and don’t’s in the jungle.
