The Gir National Park, as everyone knows, is the last abode of the remaining 400 or more Asiatic Lions left alive on the planet.
Master of all he surveys – royalty personified, the lion exudes an aura of superiority with utter disdain for other creatures. Being so completely self-centered, he leaves caring for his progeny entirely to the lioness who even has to hunt for him.
The lord and master that he is, the lion eats his share of food first and leaves whatever he can’t finish for the lioness and the cubs. That’s how the term “lion’s share” seems to have evolved.
